In February 2025, MCEE was awarded a grant from the HUME Foundation to build “The Classroom of the Future,” which culminated in the Morehouse Creative Commons, an off-site location at The Interlock in Midtown Atlanta. Following the Morehouse Beyond Borders strategic framework, MCEE transports students off campus to a Morehouse-aligned space where they participate in multimodal experiential learning opportunities that aim to strengthen their development and expand the Black educator pipeline. The space has hosted activities with students, alumni, fundraisers, Morehouse community stakeholders, and the larger Atlanta community.
A Snapshot of Additional MCEE Work and Impact in 2026 So Far
- February 2025: MCEE worked with the Center for Black Educator Development to host a convening, “Remember, Honor, Multiply,” featuring a keynote from Dr. Jarvis Givens and a panel with Chris Stewart, Etan Thomas, Dr. Anthony Outler, and Dr. Will Hayes.
- February 2025: Innovation for Equity hosted a conference at the Morehouse School of Medicine featuring Colin Kaepernick, whose team focused on innovation in education AI and stayed for a private discussion with the MCEE team.
- March 2026: MCEE filmed an intergenerational Morehouse conversation on ethics and morality in the classroom with former President Dr. Robert Michael Franklin ’79, Dr. Terrance Mitchell ’07, Dr. Donnell Williamson ’15, and Jackson Buckner ’26.
What’s Next for MCEE
- Continue the Visiting Scholar Series that connects students with educators, historians, artists, organizers, and cultural leaders advancing educational justice.
- Create a Storytelling Studio where students can develop, document, and share stories about belonging, education, culture, and community.
- Expand multimodal learning experiences that help students engage with film, oral history, archives, research, digital tools, and public storytelling.
- Increase digital and media literacy by equipping students to critically analyze media, create responsible content, and understand how stories shape public memory.
